Periodontal disease and diabetes in Australia. (#59)
Periodontal disease affects nearly one quarter of Australian adults. Periodontal disease is strongly associated with diabetes and diabetes control is affected by periodontal disease. Trends in oral health in Australian adults particularly in tooth loss as people age will be presented. This presentation will also examine the prevalence of periodontal disease and its association with diabetes in the general Australian adult population using data from the National Survey of Adult Oral Health 2004-06 (NSAOH), a random sample of the Australian population. Data will also be presented on oral health and diabetes amongst Aboriginal Australians from NSAOH and other studies. International evidence will also be presented.
