Although other steroid hormones may exert subtle effects on glucose metabolism, this discussion will concentrate on corticosteroid - induced hyperglycaemia. This is a common problem, both in hospital and ambulatory practice. Current information regarding detection, frequency, clinical relevance and management will be reviewed as background to the management of clinical cases used to stimulate discussion. It will become apparent that there are deficiencies in the data in all of these areas and some new trials and the potential for more novel therapies will be discussed.
